A strategy from the history of Poland

From a new stronghold on the Warta in 963 to the charge of the Winged Hussars outside Vienna in 1683. You build, command and lead one family through thirteen real missions.

A game about how generations of one family pass through seven centuries of war.

Your settlers work on their own: they chop wood, plough, carry goods and build. You decide what gets built and command the army by hand. That leaves you time for what matters most in strategy: forming the line, choosing the moment and striking.

Battles do not wait for the player. If you do nothing, you lose, just like a commander who stands with folded arms.

Hussars in the dust

13 missions across 720 years

The gaps are real. The first four missions cover ten years under Mieszko I, while only 78 years pass between Kircholm and Vienna.

What is in the game

Settlers in a meadow beside a cart with sacks, cattle grazing nearby

Settlers work on their own

They gather wood and stone, plough fields, hunt and build. You can order them where to go, but you never have to lead each one by the hand.

Hussars from the side, wings and lances behind them

Winged Hussars and crewed guns

The charge of the Winged Hussars throws up clouds of dust. Guns have a living crew with rammer and powder in hand, and units have morale and can break and run.

Goals beyond building

Hold out until relief arrives, escort a procession, take a river crossing, lure the enemy into a trap or defend a fortress that already stands.

  • Real battles and sieges

Cedynia, Niemcza, Głogów, Legnica, Płowce, Grunwald, Malbork, Kircholm, Jasna Góra, Vienna. Maps and events follow the sources, while the heroes of the family are invented.

  • The Rowan family chronicle

Heirlooms, the family banner and veterans pass from mission to mission and give the hero of the next mission real bonuses.

  • Skirmish: you just build

A mode with no army and no enemy. Every building unlocked and the whole map to yourself.

The Rowan family

Each mission is a page of one family chronicle. Mirosław, a retainer of Mieszko, begins it, and after him come knights, banner lieutenants and soldiers of the royal armies.

What the family wins in one mission, the hero of the next one receives at the start. It gives small but noticeable bonuses: faster healing, more armour, a harder blow, a banner that holds the courage of your men. Veterans of the last battle ride on, with their names.

The heroes of the family are invented. The wars, places and commanders around them are real.

Questions

What is GRÓD?

A historical real-time strategy game in 3D. You grow settlements and strongholds, train an army and lead it in battles and sieges from the history of Poland.

When does it release?

The release date has not been announced. The game is in production, and the first part of the campaign (13 missions) is playable. When the Steam page goes live you can wishlist the game in one click.

Is the game historically accurate?

Places, dates, armies and the course of battles follow the sources. The heroes of the Rowan family are invented so that you can live great history as a personal story. Ancestral mythology appears only in the first missions.

Do I have to build in every mission?

No. Some missions start from scratch, but others are the defence of a finished fortress, an escort, a field battle with no building or an assault. The goal and the way to play change with the era.

Which languages will the game have?

We plan Polish, English and Chinese. This website is already in all three.

Is there a mode without the campaign?

Yes. Skirmish is a building sandbox: every building is unlocked and the map has no army and no enemy.
